Mid-Live Crisis?
Excerpt taken from DYSKE white papers"Post Modern Mid-life crisis" by Dyske Suematsu. (...) people encounter a crisis as they realize their own mortality and a change in time frame from "time since birth" to "time left to live". (...) It is a realization that things will no longer get better, only worse. In this sense, in today's society, a mid-life crisis should happen much earlier. I would say in our early 30's.
From my point of view I don't feel so dramatic to say that "things will only get worse" but I must admit that when you become 30, you start thinking about a lot of things in a different way.
Let's try to compare it to be watching television.
When you reach your 30's you start asking if is not the time to change the television. And obviously this does not necessarily mean that you want to start watching different channels.
As most of my friends are over 30's, so far I've seen different behaviors regarding the "wanna change TV" thing. I've noticed basically 3 groups:
- "Happy Shinny" Not married ones keep on looking for a cute weekend girlfriend / boyfriend on all discos and nightclubs. The married ones don't remember what discos and nightclubs are.
- "Adventurers" Usually this guys take a break from their job and go to travel or just quit in order to open an independent business. There are even few of them that go back to school.
- "I want that Toy!!!" This ones (specially men) want that "toy" as a 5 year old kid. Toy range can be wide, it goes from a Play Station to a Motorcycle or even a Sailing Boat.
So the point of all this "theory" is that I am in my early 30's and I am absolutely a proud member of the "I want that Toy" crew. Thing is at home we only have one TV, and it is my wife's, so there is no chance for a Play Station. I don't have the money for the Boat (yet), so... I had to buy me a motorcycle...Cheers!
